EPFO LIFE CERTIFICATE UPDATE: The Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has simplified the rules related to pensions. This process affect more than 78 millions pensioners.
Pensioners have to be submit a Life Certificate regularly. According to EPFO, now life certificates can be submitted from home with the help of face authentication technology.
Pensioners used to face many problems
According to the information given by the government, earlier pensioners had to go to banks to get life certificates. There were many challenges in this and EPFO was also receiving complaints. EPFO adopted a Digital Life Certificate for its pensioners in the year 2015.
EPFO accepts biometric-based DLC. To submit biometric DLC also, the pensioner has to go to a branch of a bank, post office, common service center, or EPFO office. Fingerprint and iris scanner devices a is available at these centre.

Face authentication technology will make life certificates from home
Now, given the problems of the elderly, MeitY and UIDAI have developed Face Authentication Technology (FAT). With its help, face recognition technology can be used for life certificates.
EPFO adopted this technology in July 2022. With its help, pensioners may submit their DLC from homes. They can provide their life certificate from home with the help of any Android smartphone. In this, the pensioner is identified by a facial scan. UIDAI’s face recognition app is used in this.
6.6 lakh people used this service in the year 2023-24
In the year 2022-23, 2.1 lakh pensioners submitted DLC based on facial authentication technology. This numbers is increased to 6.6 lakh in the previous year.
In the year 2023-24, about 10 percent of the people submitted FAT-based DLCs. During the last financial year, a total of about 60 lakh DLCs were received from pensioners.
EPFO is trying to get a maximum number of pensioners to submit life certificates with the help of this technology.
