FASTag New Update: Government tried to provide a smoothness and barrier-free tolling experience to the users of Indian Highways and to increase the efficiency and transparency of toll tax operations.
National Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL), a company promoted by the NHAI, has invited global expressions of interest (EOI) from qualified company to develop and implement GNSS-based electronic toll tax collection systems in India.
The new feature will be available in FASTag
NHAI plans to implement the GNSS-based electronic toll collection (GNSS-ETC) system within the existing FASTag ecosystem.
Initially, both RFID-based ETC and GNSS-based ETC will work together using a hybrid model.
Dedicated GNSS lanes will be available at toll plazas, allowing vehicles using GNSS-based ETC to pass easily.
Deadline to send tenders by July 22
The objective of the EOI is to identify experienced and capable companies to exploit advanced satellite technology to provide robust, scalable, and efficient toll charger software.
It is closely to serve as the basis for the implementation of GNSS based electronic toll collection in India.
The EOI includes a complete plan of implementation and suggestions have also been invited on it. Interested companies can send their expression of interest by email to tenders@ihmcl.com by 15:00 hrs on July 22, 2024.
Toll evaders will be curbed
The implementation of GNSS-based toll tax collection in India will facilitate the best movement of vehicles on highways.
It is envisaged to provide several benefits to highway users such as barrier-free free-flow tolling leading to a hassle-free travel experience and distance-based tolling where users will pay only for the distance travelled on the national highway.
GNSS-based electronic toll tax collection will also lead to greater efficiency in toll tax collection so that it will help in plugging leakages and curbing toll evaders.
GNSS-based electronic toll tax collection in India will also help in providing a seamless travel experience to commuters on highways.
