Know what is PM Awas Yojana
The government started PMAY in June 2015. This scheme is run in both rural India and urban India. In rural India it is run as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Gramin (PMAY-G) and in cities it is run as Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana Urban (PMAY-U).
Under the PM Awas Yojana, the government gives subsidy on home loans. The amount of subsidy depends on the size of the house and income. Under this scheme, banks are encouraged to provide home loans at low interest rates. The maximum repayment period of home loans under the scheme is 20 years. Statistics show that more than 4.1 crore houses have been built under PMAY in the last 10 years.
