Ration card update: If you also use a ration card, then there is good news for you. The government has extended the deadline to link ration cards with Aadhaar cards for beneficiaries taking ration under the Public Distribution System (PDS).
Earlier this deadline was 30 June 2024, which has now been extended to 30 September 2024. This means that you now have three months extra time to link your ration card with Aadhaar.
Why is Aadhaar linking necessary
It has now become mandatory to link an Aadhaar card with a ration card. If you do not do this, then you may face problems in getting a ration.
Actually, in February 2017, the government made it mandatory to link ration cards with Aadhaar to ensure that the benefits of government schemes like subsidized food grains, and gas cylinders reach the right people.

If you have not done Aadhaar linking, then you may have to be deprived of these benefits, in some states your ration card can also be cancelled.
How to link an Aadhaar card
You can link your ration card to Aadhaar by visiting the official website of your state’s Public Distribution System (PDS).
Note that every state has its portal. So search for your state’s PDS portal on Google.
Go there and choose the option “Link Ration Card to Aadhaar” and enter your ration card number, Aadhaar card number, and registered mobile number.
After this click on the submit button. OTP will received on your number.
After confirming this OTP, your ration card will be linked to Aadhaar.
You will also get information about this through SMS. Remember, for this your mobile number must be linked to your Aadhaar card.
