The government is considering making 5 major changes in the Défense Agniveer scheme. According to information received from sources, if these changes are implemented, then Agniveers will benefit a lot.

Agniveers were constantly demanding the government to extend the service period of 4 years and make them permanent.

Extension of Service Period

One of the biggest demands of Agniveers is to extend their service period. At present, the service period of Agniveers is 4 years, out of which 6 months are training.

According to reports, the government is considering extending the service period to 5 years. This will give Agniveers a chance to gain more experience in the army.

Increase in Percentage of Permanent Commission

Currently, only 25% of Agniveers get a chance to join the army permanently. The remaining 75% of Agniveers have to retire after 4 years.

If reports are to be believed, the government is considering increasing this percentage. This will allow more Agniveers to serve in the army for a long time.

Increase in Age Limit

The minimum age limit to become an Agniveer is 17.5 years. Some reports suggest that the government is considering increasing this age limit to 21 or 22 years. Youths older than this will also get a chance to become Agniveers.

Disability Benefits

Another major demand of Agniveers is that Agniveers who become disabled during training should also continue to get financial assistance.

The government is also looking into this demand and provision for such assistance can be made in the future.

Martyr Samman Rashi and Family Assistance

If an Agniveer is martyred during duty, then there is already a provision for his family to get Samman Rashi and financial assistance.

However, according to reports, the government is also considering increasing this amount and improving the assistance given to the family.
