Railway Rules: Ticket booking from IRCTC’s site is done as per the guidelines of the Railway Board. According to these rules, any person can book tickets for friends, family or relatives from his personal user ID. Crores of people travel by Indian Railways every day, and most of these train tickets are booked online from IRCTC website, mobile app or third party site.

But can you book someone else’s train ticket from your IRCTC account? There were reports on social media in the past few days, in which it has been claimed that if you book someone else’s train ticket from your personal account, then you can even be sentenced to jail. Railways shared a note and told that ticket booking from IRCTC site is done as per the guidelines of the Railway Board. According to these rules, any person can book tickets for friends, family or relatives from his personal user ID. In such a situation, the news going on social media that you can be jailed for booking train tickets of friends is completely baseless and wrong.

 

24 tickets can be booked in a month

If a user has linked his IRCTC account with Aadhaar, then he can book up to 24 tickets in a month, whereas, through accounts linked with Aadhaar, you can book 12 tickets in a month.

 

What does the railway rule say?

According to section 143 of the Railway Act, 1989, tickets booked from personal accounts cannot be sold, there is a provision for strict punishment for this.
