Citroen Basalt: Citroen India has unveiled the production-spec Citroen Basalt coupe-SUV. Basalt was previewed as a close-to-production concept in March 2024. There are no changes to the exterior of the production model. Basalt will enter the competitive compact SUV market in India, but it will compete directly with the upcoming Tata Curve. Curve will be launched on August 7. Complete details related to dimensions, features, engine of Basalt have been revealed.

Citroen Basalt Design and Style

Talking about design and style, then the design and styling of the Basalt is similar to the model seen on the concept. The only difference is that the production model gets smaller, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels than the concept.

These are fitted with different tyres, which are not as thick as the ones seen on the concept. Another small change is in the body cladding. While the concept has a glossy finish, the cladding for the production model has a matte finish. The wheelbase of the Basalt is 2,651mm, which makes it 20mm shorter than the wheelbase of the C3 Aircross. Ground clearance is 180mm.

Talking about specification then, the design is quite similar to the C3 Aircross, with which it shares its underpinnings. The Basalt gets a sloping roofline that flows into a high deck lid with an inbuilt spoiler lip. The tail-lights styled to look like LED units actually have conventional light bulbs.

In terms of colour options, the Citroen will come in 5 single-tone Polar White, Steel Grey, Platinum Grey, Garnet Red and Cosmo Blue. All of these white and red will be available with a black roof.

Talking about features then, the features of the production Basalt borrows many elements from the C3 Aircross, including the dashboard design, layout and 10.25-inch central touchscreen. However, it also gets a 7.0-inch fully digital instrument display. There is adjustable under-thigh support for the rear seats.

Including a 15-watt wireless phone charger, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and connected car technology. Interestingly, the Basalt does not get a panoramic sunroof, which Tata is going to offer in its Curve SUV.

Citroen Basalt Engine

Talking about engine, then Basalt will be available with two engines. The first is a naturally-aspirated, 1.2-litre petrol that produces 81 bhp and 115 Nm of torque that was first introduced with the C3 hatchback, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Basalt will also get a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine with the option of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. The power output of both gearboxes will be 108 bhp. While the manual version will get 195 Nm of torque and the automatic version will get 210 Nm of torque.

Talking about mileage then, the ARAI certified mileage of the 1.2-litre version will be 18 kmpl, the turbo-petrol manual will be 19.5 kmpl and the turbo-petrol automatic will be 18.7 kmpl.

Citroen Basalt Price

Talking about price then, the company has not yet shared its price details. However, if reports are to be believed, its starting ex-showroom price can be around Rs 13 lakh.
