OROP BIG UPDATE: The Modi government first implemented OROP in July 2014. After this, this scheme was amended in July 2019. However, due to legal challenges, the implementation of this amendment was delayed and the matter reached the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court ordered the implementation of OROP in 2023 and directed its benefits to be available from 1 July 2019. The benefit of this was given to the military personnel who retired on 30 June 2019.

OROP means that ex-servicemen with the same rank and equal service period will get equal pensions at the time of retirement, irrespective of the difference.

Good news for lakhs of ex-servicemen of the country. The central government has approved the third phase of One Rank One Pension (OROP).

This will increase the pension of ex-servicemen. The government will soon send the revised pension money to the accounts of pensioners.

Why was OROP-2 delayed

The biggest problem in implementing the second phase of OROP i.e. OROP-2 was the pending petition in the Supreme Court. The ex-servicemen claimed that the OROP introduced by the government was not real and they would not get the real benefit from it.

The hearing of this case went on for a long time and finally in 2023, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of the central government. After this, the ex-servicemen got the benefit of OROP-1 and OROP-2.

OROP-3 got approval

OROP-3 pension was been approved in a recent cabinet meeting and cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of Defense got approval for the OROP-3 pension.

The new pension rates were discussed in the cabinet meeting and PM Modi gave it the green signal. The benefit of OROP-3 was to be available from July 2024, but due to the formation of the government and formalities, it has been delayed by 1-2 months.

Ex-servicemen will get big benefits from OROP

Due to OROP, ex-servicemen are getting equal pensions, which has boosted their morale. This policy is a big relief for ex-servicemen who often face financial problems.

The OROP policy has resolved a long-standing issue, which was a cause of anger and resentment for many retired soldiers.

The approval of the OROP-3 pension will be a big benefit for ex-servicemen. After this approval by the Cabinet, now pensioners are waiting to get pensions at new rates.
