Yamaha Bikes : Yamaha’s recent patent applications in Europe seem to point in the direction of a whole range of new models in multiple engine displacements under the RW name.

Yamaha’s separate trademark applications reveal the RW125, RW155, RW250, RW350 and RW700. According to the trademark filings, these are to be used with “bikes, motor scooters, three-wheel bikes, three-wheel motor scooters, three-wheel mopeds, and parts and fittings for all of the above accessories.”

Yamaha MT-03 Review

Clearly, the model names under the RW series will be for either two-wheelers or three-wheelers, but going by the engine displacement numbers it’s more likely to be a range of new motorcycles. All the new names match the models available in Yamaha’s R series sport bikes, as well as the MT series naked bikes sold in several markets, which include the R125, MT-125, R25, MT-25, as well as the R7 and MT-07, as well as the R15 and MT-15.

Now, Yamaha also has a few XSR models, which are not sold in India, but the R and MT sport and naked ranges, and the smaller displacement RW model is not likely to include the Adventure model, nor is it likely to replace the Ténéré 700. So, the question is what kind of models will the RW series offer, given that there is likely to be a full range from 125 cc to 700 cc models?

Will the Yamaha RD350 be relaunched?

And then, there is the question of the RW350, which looks quite similar to the iconic Yamaha RD350 that went on sale in India in the 1980s. Globally, the two-stroke 350 cc parallel-twin also had the RZ350 model, so it is quite likely that Yamaha is looking at a new range of retro-styled models under the RW series. Now, this would be interesting. A modernized version of the Yamaha RD350 with a four-stroke engine, new technology and engineering could definitely be something that Yamaha is considering.
