DA Hike and Bonus: The central government may soon make a big announcement of an increase in dearness allowance (DA) for central employees. Media reports suggest that the announcement could occur either in the last week of September or the first week of October.
Reports suggest that the government anticipates a 3-4 percent increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) starting from July 1, 2024. In March 2024, the government had increased the dearness allowance by 4 percent.
Meanwhile, there is exciting news for approximately 20 lakh employees and 8 lakh pensioners in Uttar Pradesh. With great enthusiasm, preparations are underway to increase the dearness allowance for all these individuals before Diwali. Reports indicate that the employees will receive a dearness allowance prior to Diwali.
There is a plan to increase state employees’ dearness allowance. It could be increased by 4%. The payment of dearness allowance will commence in July 2024. Along with this, there will also be a bonus for non-gazetted employees. Hari Kishor Tiwari, the President of the Uttar Pradesh Employees Joint Council, reports that the government increases the dearness allowance and announces bonuses every Diwali.
We are in discussions with the government and anticipate the release of this increase soon. It is likely that before Diwali, the dearness allowance, along with the bonus, will come into the employees’ accounts. This increase will also benefit approximately 8 lakh pensioners who are under the old pension.
On the other hand, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has approved a proposal to increase the dearness allowance by four percent for employees working in the seventh pay scale in public corporations, undertakings, and authorities. The employees will receive the increased dearness allowance from January 1, 2024.
The state government has provided state employees with an increased dearness allowance. Employees of public corporations, undertakings, and state authorities have yet to receive a dearness allowance. We decide the hike in DA and DR based on the percentage increase in the 12-month average of the All India Consumer Price Index (CPI-IW). Every year, the government revises the allowances on January 1 and July 1, usually announcing the decision in March and September/October.
