According to Indian Railways’ new guidelines, if a passenger holds a general (unreserved) ticket and misses their train, they are allowed to board another train on the same day using the same ticket.

However, if the passenger has a reserved seat and misses the train, they cannot use the same ticket for another train. Boarding another train with a reserved ticket can result in fines, as the ticket is valid only for the specific train and time mentioned.

If a person decides to cancel the confirmed train ticket then a refund can also be initiated. However, there is a rule to it. According to the rules of the Indian railways, if a confirmed train ticket is canceled within 48 hours and 12 hours before the scheduled departure time, then up to 25% of the total amount will be deducted.
