The future of Indian speed star Mohammed Shami remains uncertain, as he is not included in the India vs. New Zealand test series, which is going to start tomorrow at 9.30 am. Before the match, Indian team skipper Rohit Sharma has to face some questions, including Mohammed Shami’s fitness.
Rohit in a press conference before first test match against New Zealand, “To be honest, right now it is very difficult for us to make a call on him [Shami] whether he will be fit for this series or Australia series. He recently had a setback. He had a swelling in his knee, which was quite unusual while he was in the process of getting fit, getting close to 100%. That put him back a little bit in his recovery.”
Mohammed Shami has been grappling with injuries recently. After recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup, he was undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, preparing for a return to domestic cricket, Shami suffered a setback with a knee injury that has delayed his comeback. Despite his comeback speculations Shami remain out from the India vs New Zealand test series.
However, BCCI has expressed hope that he could be fit in time for the series against Australia. Shami has resumed light bowling sessions at the NCA, and his recovery is being closely monitored by the process professionals. His return will be pivotal, as he remains a key figure in India’s pace attack.
Rohit also clarify their thoughts about Mohammed Shami. Because the nature of injury is quite serious. So BCCI do not want make in quick decision. Rohit said, “tough for a fast bowler having missed so much of cricket. Then suddenly to come out and be at his best, it is not ideal. We want to give him enough time to recover and be fully fit. The physios, the trainers, the doctors have set a road map for him. He is supposed to play a couple of games before he plays international cricket. We will see where he is at after this New Zealand series.”
