Another promising innings in the Ranji Trophy. Washington Sundar has played a 152-run inning of 231 balls, batting at number 3 position.

Two Indian veterans, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, are now 37 and 35 years old, respectively. BCCI has already started to find their replacements. On the opening spot, there are many contenders to replace Rohit, but very few for the number three position, especially at number 3. Virat Kohli has played his part as number three batsman against New Zealand in the first test match. KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan can also try their luck at the position. But so far, no solid option for the spot. If Washington Sundar keeps his form, then he has the potential to cement his position as an expert number three batter.

Tamil Nadu and Delhi face to face in the Elite Group D of the Ranji Trophy. In this match, star all-rounder Washington Sundar has scored a century against Delhi at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. This was his first first-class century in the last 7 years. Earlier, he did this feat against Tripura in 2017, which was also the first first-class century of his career.

Washington Sundar batted in the lower order for Team India. But in the Ranji Trophy, he is currently playing at number three and faced 178 balls to reach a century in the match being played against Delhi.

Sundar has played 4 Test matches for Team India so far. During this time, he has scored three half-centuries in six innings in Test cricket, and his average is 66.25. But due to star all-rounders like Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Akshar Patel, he has not gotten a place in the Test team for some time.

After the inning Sundar said, “definitely consider myself a top-order batter. I’m very happy with the kind of opportunity I got, to bat at No. 3. For me, one thing is very important – I need to be able to do whatever the team demands. It is a team game. That is what I always think about. Hopefully, I can deliver such knocks consistently”
