There was no epic victory on the last day of the first match of India vs New Zealand test series. New Zealand defeated India at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. On the fifth day, New Zealand picked up the required runs to a easy win. The Kiwis took a 0-1 lead in the three-match Test series.

The weather in Bengaluru was damp on Sunday morning. It was drizzling in the morning. Plastic covers were there to protect the surface. The match started after the weather improved a bit.

Jaspreet Bumrah took a wicket in the first over of New Zealand’s second innings. New Zealand’s two openers captain Tom Latham returned to zero runs, Devon Conway returned to the pavilion for 17 runs. New Zealand lose two wickets for 35. Bumrah took those two wickets alone.

New Zealand took advantage of the new wicket and cloudy weather to stop India by 46 runs in the first innings of the match. Indian bowlers had a chance to do something similar in the last day of the match. Bumrah picked up a wicket in the first over to boost India’s winning hopes a bit. Mohammed Siraj, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav could not give him the required support. Rachin Ravindra (39 not out) and Will Young (48 not out) ensured victory for New Zealand.

With this defeat, India did not face much problem in the World Test Championship rankings. Team India, led by Rohit Sharma, is remain at the top of the points table with 68.08 points. The team will want to increase confidence for the tour of Australia (Border Gavaskar Trophy) by winning the remaining two matches of the series.
