Shreyas Iyer completed his century off 131 balls against the Maharashtra in the second tour of the Ranji Trophy 2024/25. During this, he hit 9 fours and 3 sixes. This was his 14th first-class cricket century. He had to wait 11 months for this moment.
This century is a big relief for Shreyas Iyer because he was dismissed three times in the last 10 first-class innings without opening his account. During this, he also made three fifties. Shreyas Iyer played three matches in the Duleep Trophy 2024-25 season. During this time he scored only 154 runs in 6 innings at an average of 25.66.
Shreyas Iyer said after scoring a century in the Ranji Trophy, “It feels good to be back after a long time. I was troubled due to injury but now after a long time it feels good to score a century. I am fully looking forward to getting back to Tests but yes, as we say, control things that are under control and my job is to continue performing and playing cricket and also see if my body is in the best condition. So I will take the best possible decision accordingly.”
Iyer missed the last two Tests of the series against England due to the recurrence of a back injury. The Mumbai batsman reiterated that he solved problems while playing in the longer format. “Look, I resolved my emotions during the Test format and things didn’t work out my way. I am doing what I am supposed to do, i.e. training and playing matches continuously and I think whatever matches I have played now has helped me get back to my fitness level as well as training.”
He further added, “The body lifted too much weight at the same time. So we have to manage here and there and strategise how I play. Now I have to be smart in terms of my decisions, I need to see that my body is in the best shape. As I have said before, I have to take decisions according to that, no matter what people think outside. I have to listen to my body because I know how many boundaries have been set over the years and based on that, I will make the right decision.”
