RBI has given Diwali a two-day holiday. When will Diwali be celebrated in the country – October 31 or November 1?
There is confusion among the people about the date of celebrating the Diwali festival this year in India. Diwali is celebrated every year on the new moon day of Kartik month. This year, Amavasya starts from 3:12 pm on Thursday, October 31, lasting until 5:53 pm on Friday, November 1. There is a tradition of lighting lamps and worshipping Lakshmi after sunset on Diwali. However, Amavasya will end before 6 pm on November 1. In such a situation, Lakshmi Puja will be done on October 31.
RBI declares two days holiday for Diwali
The Reserve Bank of India has announced a two-day holiday for Diwali. RBI has given a holiday on Thursday, October 31 and Friday, November 1, 2024. All banks in India will remain closed for two days for Amavasya and Lakshmi Puja.
October 31: Diwali / Kali Puja / Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s Birthday / Narak Chaturdashi – Banks across the country will remain closed except Tripura, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Manipur, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Jammu and Kashmir.
November 1: Diwali Amavasya (Lakshmi Pujan)/Kut/Kannada Rajyotsava- Banks will remain closed in Tripura, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Manipur, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Meghalaya.
November 2: Balipadmi/Lakshmi Puja (Deepawali)/Govardhan Puja/Vikram Samvat New Year Day- Banks will remain closed in Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra.
November 7: Chhath (Evening Arghya)- Banks will remain closed in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand.
November 8: Chhath (Morning Arghya)/Vangala Festival- Banks will remain closed in Bihar, Jharkhand, and Meghalaya.
Banks will remain closed across the country on October 26 due to the fourth Saturday of the month and on October 27 due to Sunday.
