This scheme aims to motivate urban residents to grow vegetables, fruits, and flowers on the roof of their houses. The government will provide financial assistance under two major schemes.

In the first scheme, a 75% subsidy will be given for growing plants in pots, while in the second scheme, a subsidy will be provided for making farming beds.

The scheme is currently available in cities like Patna, Gaya, Muzaffarpur, and Bhagalpur and aims to encourage urban agriculture so that people can grow fresh fruits and vegetables in their homes.

Under this scheme, beneficiaries will get up to 75% subsidy for gardening on their roof. In the Gamla scheme, if you grow plants in pots on your terrace, then on a total cost of ₹ 10,000, the government will give you a subsidy of ₹ 7,500.

This means that you will have to spend only ₹ 2,500. On the other hand, in the Farming Bed Scheme, if you have 300 square feet of space on your terrace, then at a cost of ₹ 50,000 you will get a subsidy of ₹ 37,500, and you will have to contribute only ₹ 12,500.

Permission is given to grow mango, guava, banana, lemon, and ornamental, medicinal plants under this scheme.

How to Avail This Scheme

To avail of this scheme, you can apply online by visiting the official website of the Horticulture Directorate of Bihar Agriculture Department. After applying for the Farming Bed Scheme, you will have to deposit an amount of ₹12,500 for your unit and ₹2,500 for the Gamla Scheme.

For this, you will be provided a bank account number, where you have to deposit this amount. Note that beneficiaries living in apartments are required to obtain NOC from their society. After applying, government officials will inspect your roof and help you start gardening under the scheme.
