Train Travel: Indian Railways is considered the lifeline of the country, which transports millions of passengers to their destination every day. However, many times passengers miss the train, due to which they get confused. Especially when they have a confirmed or reservation ticket, the situation becomes even more complicated. In such a situation, the question arises whether the missed train ticket can be traveled by another train. Indian Railways has made some special rules to give a solution to this problem, which is necessary for the passengers to know.
Travel Rules on Reservation Ticket
If you have a ticket and you miss your train, then you cannot travel in another train on the same ticket. This rule is applicable to all reserved classes, be it sleepers or AC coaches. To travel on another train, it is mandatory to buy a new ticket. If you travel in another train without a new ticket and are caught by the railway authorities, it will be considered ticketless travel. In such a situation, you may also have to pay a fine and face legal action.
Application for Refund
If you miss your train and are unable to travel, you can apply to get a refund as per the rules of Indian Railways. For this, you have to file TDR (Ticket Deposit Receipt) within 4 hours of leaving the train. The amount of refund is decided on the basis of the train and class of the ticket. Note that the refund money is not refunded; rather, the railway makes some deductions.
What to do if you miss the train?
In case you miss the train, you can consider the options below:
Buy a new ticket: If you miss your train and need to arrive early, the best option is to buy a new ticket and travel.
File TDR for refund: If you are unable to travel, file a TDR to get a refund from the railways.
Contact the support staff: If you are at the station and have missed the train, you can contact the support staff of the railways; they will provide you with a refund or other information related to the ticket.
How can I travel by another train?
If you have a general ticket, then there may be some convenience for you. Passengers with general tickets can travel in the same class and other trains of the same route without any hassle. However, this facility is only for general ticket holders and not for reservation ticket holders. It is also worth noting here that you can travel by train on the same route for which you have a general ticket.
If you try to travel in another class (such as sleeper or AC coach) by taking a general ticket, you may have to pay a fine.
