Former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar made a huge comment on Rohit Sharma. He believes that if Rohit Sharma is out of more than one Test match on the tour of Australia (IND vs AUS, Border Gavaskar Trophy), then Jasprit Bumrah should be given the command in the tournament to replace Rohit.
Gavaskar seeks clarification
Gavaskar asked the Indian team management to clarify things in this matter. Gavaskar also said that it is very important for the Indian captain to play the first match on the tour of Australia.
Rohit can miss a match in Australia
According to the speculations circulating in the social media that Indian captain Rohit may miss the first Test match on the tour of Australia. Rohit can stay out of the opening match of this series due to personal reasons. In Rohit’s absence, Bumrah is expected to lead the side in the first Test match in Perth from November 22. After the third Test against New Zealand, Rohit had said that he is not sure about the program at the moment.
Sunil Gavaskar told…
Gavaskar said, “It is important for the captain to play the first match. If he is injured, it is a different matter, but being unavailable puts a lot of pressure on the vice-captain. I have read that Rohit can miss two matches of Australia series. I believe that in this situation, the selection committee should hand over the captaincy to Bumrah for the entire tour and tell Rohit that you play in this series as a player. Rohit should be in the team for the first Test.”
Concern over Rohit Sharma’s form
Captain Rohit’s form remains a matter of concern for India throughout the recent New Zealand series, Rohit scored a total of 100 runs in the three-match Test series against New Zealand. After the defeat against New Zealand to 0-3, the path to the final of the World Test Championship (WTC) for India has become difficult. India will have to win at least four matches to cement their position in the final game.
