The Haryana government has announced a significant increase in monthly pensions for freedom fighters, Hindi movement activists from the 1957 mother tongue agitation, and those who participated in the Emergency protests. This increased pension will come into effect from July 1, 2024.

Chief Minister Naib Singh paid tribute to the ‘Satyagrahis’ who fought during the Emergency to re-establish democracy and save the dignity of the Constitution. The Chief Minister said that the atrocities and excesses that took place during the Emergency have not been forgotten yet. He said that the Haryana government has started many schemes in honour of these democracy fighters. Haryana Rajya Shubh Jyotsna Pension Scheme was started in December 2017. Under this, a monthly pension is being given to 501 democracy fighters and their widows.

One such initiative is the Haryana Shubhrajyotsna Pension Scheme, launched in December 2017, which provides a monthly pension to 501 democracy fighters and their widows. Starting July 1, 2024, their monthly pension will be increased from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000.

In addition to the pension boost, the Haryana government is offering free travel on ordinary Haryana Roadways buses, with a 75% fare waiver for Volvo bus services. Furthermore, the Ayushman Bharat scheme will continue to offer medical treatment coverage of up to ₹5 lakh at no cost.

The pension for the Hindi Movement’s language activists has also seen an increase, raising their monthly support to ₹20,000. This increase not only serves as a financial relief but also as a recognition of their contribution to the cultural and linguistic heritage of the state.
