If your Aadhaar is more than 10 years old and hasn’t been updated in a long time, you may have seen messages claiming it will become invalid after June 14. Recently, such messages have been circulating on social media, suggesting that Aadhaar cards older than 10 years will be rendered useless if not updated by that date. However, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has not issued any such directive. So, where did this information about June 14 originate?
Will Aadhaar Cards Over 10 Years Old Become Useless?
The truth is that Aadhaar cards that are 10 years old or older will not become invalid or unusable; they will continue to work as usual. But where did the June 14 date come from? UIDAI has set June 14 as the deadline to update Aadhaar cards for free. This means you can update your Aadhaar information at no cost until June 14. However, this date is being misinterpreted and circulated as a deadline for Aadhaar cards to remain valid, which is incorrect.
You will not have to spend a single penny to update your Aadhaar online till 14 June. After this deadline, if you update your address, name or anything else on your Aadhaar card, you will have to pay a fee of Rs 50 for it. If you want to update your Aadhaar card, you can do it for free by uploading documents online before 14 June.
Fees will be applicable in offline mode
The facility of free updates is available only for online service. If you go to the nearest Aadhaar centre to update offline, you will have to pay a fee of Rs 50 for the update. You will have to go to the Aadhaar centre and get your demographic or biometric details updated by paying a fee of Rs 50. In such a situation, it is better that if you have to make any changes to your Aadhaar, then do it online from home without any charge before 14th June.
