The state government takes big decisions. In Himachal Pradesh, the state government is running welfare schemes for the upliftment of people living below the poverty line and backward classes. One of these is the Shagun Yojana, or Shagun Scheme. Under the scheme, the state government gives shagun on the marriage of daughters.
Shagun Yojana 2024
On behalf of the state government, poor families have been given shagun on the marriage of daughters. The main objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to girls and women belonging to BPL families above 18 years of age by reducing the burden of the marriage of daughters. The benefit of the scheme is given to those daughters of BPL families whose age is above 18 years and a permanent resident of Himachal Pradesh. If the girl is married to a boy who is not a permanent resident of Himachal Pradesh, she will still be considered eligible for a marriage grant.
Govt gives up to 31,000 rupees
The state government provides financial assistance of Rs 31,000 to eligible girls or women belonging to BPL families in the form of marriage grants. This grant amount is provided to the parents or guardians of the girl. The state government is also increasing this amount from time to time, keeping in mind the expenditure of the grant for living. The District Programme Officer of the concerned district is competent to sanction this marriage grant amount.
To get the benefit of the scheme, the parents or guardians of the girl, if the girl is destitute, can send her application to the concerned Child Development Project Officer to get this scheme benefit, and the application form is verified by the Child Development Project Officer.
Process
To get the benefit of the Shagun scheme, the marriage grant amount can be paid to the parents or guardians two months before the date of proposed marriage. If the marriage has already taken place, the applicant can apply for the grant amount even within six months of the marriage. If the applicant applies after six months of marriage, the application will not be accepted, and he will not be given benefit under the Shagun scheme. The grant amount will be transferred to the applicant’s bank account through the Child Development Project Officer.

To get the benefit of this scheme, the Himachali certificate of the applicant or girl, parent or guardian, or girl’s own BPL certificate should be there. This certificate has been issued by the competent authority. Certificate of birth date of the girl. The proposed date of marriage, which should be attested by the concerned Panchayat Pradhan, Councillor, Incharge Nari Seva Sadan, and Superintendent Balika Ashram. Name and address of the person to whom the girl is getting married; certificate. The age of the proposed groom should not be less than 21 years. The applicant will be eligible for marriage grant under only one of the schemes of Mukhyamantri Kanyadan Yojana or Shagun Yojana. If the marriage grant is not utilized for the purpose within a period of three months from the date of disbursement, the sanctioned amount must be deposited back to the Child Development Project Officer.
