The order comes amid a rise in incidents of financial fraud, as several fintech companies were allegedly using PAN data to create customer profiles without proper user consent. This had raised a lot of concerns. To prevent misuse of personal information, the Home Ministry directed the Income Tax Department to restrict access to personal data through PAN.

 

Aadhaar-PAN Link: How to Link Aadhaar with PAN

 

Step 1: Visit the official website of the Income Tax e-filing portal, www.incometax.gov.in.

 

Step 2: Now, on the homepage, tap on the ‘Quick Links’ option.

 

Step 3: Click on the ‘Link Aadhaar Status’ option and enter your PAN and Aadhaar card number on the next page.

 

Step 4: If your PAN and Aadhaar are already linked, a message will appear, which states, “Your PAN is already linked to the provided Aadhaar.”

 

Step 5: If your PAN is not already linked to your Aadhaar card, a message will appear on your screen that says, ‘PAN is not linked to Aadhaar.’

 

Step 6: After clicking on that option, you will be directed to a page. Fill in all the required details, including your PAN and Aadhaar details.

 

How to Link PAN Aadhaar via SMS

 

Type UIDPAN (space) 12 digit Aadhaar number (space) PAN number on your mobile phone.

 

Send an SMS to 567678 or 56161 using your registered phone number.

 

After this, in a few seconds, you will receive a message confirming that your Aadhaar has been linked to your PAN.
