Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to present a major gift to all elderly citizens of the country aged 70 and above today. On the auspicious occasion of Christmas, PM Modi will launch a health coverage plan for seniors under the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
With this scheme, people aged 70 and above from all income groups across the country will receive free health insurance worth Rs 5 lakh annually. Notably, this government scheme will benefit 6 crore elderly individuals from 4.5 crore families.
People in these three states won’t receive the benefits
In a key cabinet meeting on November 11, 2024, the government decided to include all citizens above 70 years under the AB-PMJAY. However, residents in Delhi, Odisha, and West Bengal won’t receive this benefit because their respective state governments haven’t yet implemented the scheme. Here’s how people aged 70 and above can apply for AB-PMJAY benefits and the documents required.
How to Apply for Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana
To get benefits under Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, you first have to register on the PMJAY portal or the Ayushman app. If a person is already covered under this scheme, he will have to apply again and complete eKYC through his Aadhar card for a new card. By doing this, the elderly will get additional coverage of Rs 5 lakh separately. Apart from this, people who are covered under the health insurance of ESIC and private companies can also apply for this scheme.
You can get free treatment anywhere in 29,648 hospitals
As of September 1, 2024, a total of 29,648 hospitals are associated with the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, of which 12,696 are private hospitals, where a person covered under PMJAY can get cashless treatment.
