The Pakistan Cricket Team has witnessed an unpredicted number of changes in coaches and captains over the past year. This trend continues as the team now has a new coach following the departure of  South Africa veteran Gary Kirsten. On Monday, 18th November, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that former fast bowler Aaqib Javed will take over as the new head coach for ODIs and T20s. Aaqib Javed replaces Jason Gillespie, who had been appointed for the team’s Australia tour.

The PCB announced on Monday that Aaqib Javed will take over this responsibility starting with the white ball series against Zimbabwe. However, Aaqib has been appointed as the head coach of the team only on an interim basis and he will coach the team till the Champions Trophy to be held in February-March 2025. The PCB has also said that during this time a permanent head coach will also be searched, who will be appointed after the Champions Trophy.

Aaqib Javed Joins as Head Coach for ODIs and T20s

Aaqib Javed has been appointed as the new head coach for Pakistan’s ODI and T20 teams. He replaces Jason Gillespie, who was given the responsibility for the team during the Australia tour.

Javed Remains on the Selection Committee

Along with his new coaching role, Aaqib Javed will continue to serve as a senior selector and convener in the Pakistan Cricket Board’s selection committee. The board has stated that Javed’s additional responsibilities will be reviewed after the Champions Trophy. Before that, Pakistan will play ODI and T20 series against Zimbabwe and South Africa, followed by a triangular ODI series at home against South Africa and New Zealand.

Replacement of Jason Gillespie

Aaqib Javed replaces Jason Gillespie, who was initially appointed as the head coach for the Australia tour. Gillespie, who is the red-ball coach for Pakistan, was given additional duties after Gary Kirsten’s resignation. Although there were speculations that Gillespie might be removed from the role for all three formats, the PCB clarified that he would remain the coach for the upcoming Test series.

Upcoming International Series for Pakistan Men’s Team
