Maruti Suzuki Alto is one of the best-selling cars in both the Japanese and Indian markets. The latest Alto, which belongs to the 9th generation, was launched in 2021. Recently, a report revealed that Suzuki might launch the new 10th-generation Alto in Japan in 2026. Let us find out what features the new Alto might offer, its expected mileage, and its possible price.
Will be Lighter Than the Existing Model
The Suzuki Alto has a long history, first launched in Japan in 1979 and introduced in India in 2000. The company is now working on its new generation model. Early in 2024, Suzuki announced that it is developing the 10th-generation Alto, which will be much lighter than the current version.
The new Alto is expected to weigh about 100 kg less, ranging between 580 kg and 660 kg. Interestingly, the third-generation Alto also weighed 580 kg, but that was a different era. Today, buyers prioritize safety features in vehicles.
The new Alto may use an advanced version of the lightweight Heartect platform, made from ultra and advanced high-tensile steel (UHSS and AHSS). This material is both lightweight and extremely strong.
New Gen Suzuki Alto: Improved Mileage
Reports suggest that the new Alto will offer better fuel efficiency than the current model. The existing Alto in Japan delivers 25.2 km/l with the petrol variant and 27.7 km/l with the mild-hybrid variant.

The 10th-generation Alto is expected to feature a 49 PS naturally aspirated petrol engine paired with a 2-kW electric motor. Suzuki may integrate the 48V Super N Charge system in the upcoming model. Additionally, a lean battery system might be introduced to boost motor output. Although official figures are yet to be disclosed, the new Alto is anticipated to offer a mileage exceeding 30 km/l.
New Gen Suzuki Alto: Price
The current Suzuki Alto is priced at 1,068,000 yen (₹5.83 lakh) for the petrol variant and 1,218,800 yen (₹6.65 lakh) for the mild-hybrid version. The upcoming Alto is expected to have a starting price of around 1 million yen (₹5.46 lakh).
