Deciding the Man of the Match award was a difficult task
Deciding on the recipient of the Man of the Match award was a difficult task. Following the win in the Perth Test, Bumrah was declared the Player of the Match. However, when questioned about the deserving candidate for this title, Bumrah mentioned Yashasvi. In Rohit Sharma’s absence, Bumrah led the Test match, winning the toss and opting to bat first. The Indian team scored only 150 runs before being bowled out, and then Australia was also bowled out for 104 runs due to Bumrah’s lethal bowling. Bumrah claimed five wickets. Following this, India ended their innings at 487 runs with six wickets down.
Yashasvi Jaiswal made 161 runs, whereas Virat Kohli remained unbeaten with a score of 100. KL Rahul, having scored 26 runs in the initial inning, went on to score 77 runs in the subsequent inning. Simultaneously, Nitish Reddy, who was India’s top scorer in the first innings with 41 runs, remained unbeaten with 38 runs. Following that, Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj both claimed three wickets each in the second innings. Australia were dismissed for a total of 238 runs, leading to India’s victory by a margin of 295 runs.

“Really happy and proud of the win. To go 1-0 up. There are lots of positives to take away,” Jasprit Bumrah added after his first win as Team India’s Test captain. “When you get out on a low score, sometimes bowlers get desperate. The message was clear: stick to the plans. Very happy to get my first Test win as captain. Even when I am not captain, I look to contribute as much as possible. Yesterday was almost as good as you want. Batters played long; bowlers got rest. Yesterday was perfect. We wanted to bowl in the evening. We wanted 2 wickets but got more.”
