The Rajasthan government is making several announcements for farmers. In the last budget, the allocation for all farmer-related schemes was increased. Additionally, the Kisan Mitra Urja Yojana was introduced. This scheme benefits farmers with smaller landholdings who struggle to pay electricity bills for irrigation. The Kisan Mitra Urja Yojana has proven very helpful for them. Under this scheme by the Ashok Gehlot government, each farmer saves Rs 1,000 per month and Rs 12,000 per year on electricity bills.

What is Kisan Mitra Urja Yojana?

In earlier times, farmers relied on diesel pumps for irrigation, where diesel prices significantly impacted farming budgets. Today, electric pumps are used for irrigation, but farmers often face challenges with electricity supply and paying the bills for these pumps. To address this, the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan launched the Kisan Mitra Urja Yojana, which provides subsidies on electricity bills.

Under this scheme, farmers receive a subsidy of Rs 1,000 every month on their electricity bills. This amounts to government assistance of Rs 12,000 per year in electricity bill relief.

Launch of Kisan Mitra Urja Yojana

The Rajasthan government launched the Kisan Mitra Urja Yojana on 17 July 2021. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot recently announced that since the scheme’s implementation, electricity bills for nearly 8 lakh farmers in Rajasthan have been reduced to zero. Additionally, approximately 46 lakh farmers across the state are benefiting from this scheme.
