Indian Railways: During the celebration period of Festive Season 2024, Indian Railways collected a total of Rs 12,159.35 crore. This revenue was generated from the sale of tickets for train travel. Indian Railways has generated this revenue during the period from 1 September 2024 to 31 October 2024. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav provided this information in Parliament. Several festivals, such as Ganesh Chaturthi, Dussehra, and Diwali, took place in the span of the two months.
During this period, numerous individuals either head to their residence or journey to another location to observe the festival. During festive seasons, a lot of Indians opt for Indian Railways for traveling in such circumstances. Ashwini Vaishnav presented data segmented by zones in the Lok Sabha. He described the amount of money generated by the sales of tickets in the data related to Indian Railways. He provided this information when a question was asked in the Lok Sabha.
As per the data shared by the Railway Minister, approximately 143.71 crore passengers have undertaken journeys between September 1 and November 10. The Central Zone had the highest number of passengers. Around 31.63 crores passengers were present at this location. While the Western Zone had 26.13 crores passengers, the Eastern Zone had 24.67 crores passengers. The South-Eastern Zone had the fewest passengers. Merely 1.48 crore passengers journeyed to this location.
Trains this festive season increased by 73 percent compared to last year
According to a report, an extra 7,663 special trains were operated during the festive period. The number of trains this festive season increased by 73 percent compared to last year. In the year 2023, a total of 4,429 specialized trains were operated. Between Diwali and Chhath festival, a total of 957.24 lakh passengers have traveled this year. In 2023, during the same period last year, there were 33.91 lakh passengers. The railway service had 1.2 crore passengers on November 4, 2024. Out of these, 1.943 million passengers had reserved seats while 10.1 million passengers traveled without reservations.
As per the Indian Railways’ announcement, a total of 207 special trains operated on November 3rd. On November 4, a total of 203 special trains operated simultaneously. These trains were operated alongside the existing special trains.
