In India, the Aadhaar card is an essential document for every citizen. It is widely used for various important government and private tasks. However, carrying the Aadhaar card everywhere may not always be convenient, and there is a risk of it being lost or stolen. In such cases, you can use an e-Aadhaar card. Here, we explain how to download e-Aadhaar and where it can be used effectively.

What is E-Aadhaar?

E-Aadhaar acts as an address and ID proof key just like the Aadhaar card. It contains all the information like the Aadhaar card and is digitally signed and authorized by UIDAI. In simple words, e-Aadhaar is a secure, password-protected and digitally signed copy of the Aadhaar card. That is, e-Aadhaar is the digital form of the physical Aadhaar card. It can be stored in the phone itself. That is, there is no need to keep any separate document apart from the phone.

Where can e-Aadhaar be used?

e-Aadhaar is as valid as a physical Aadhaar card. It can be used as proof of identity wherever required, as well as proof of address and photo identity for passport applications.
