New Passport : Now, there won’t be a need to cover great distances to obtain a passport. The central government has launched a new initiative aimed at raising the number of passport service centers (Post Office Passport Seva Kendras – POPSK) from 442 to 600 via post offices over the next 5 years. Its primary aim is to offer passport services to individuals at the closest post office. With this initiative, residents are now able to apply for a passport at the Common Service Center (CSC) located in their nearest post office. Thanks to this service, countless individuals will have the opportunity to obtain passports effortlessly and without difficulties.
Agreement executed between the Department of Posts and the Ministry of External Affairs
An agreement has been executed between the Department of Posts and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), stipulating that this service will be established nationwide by 2028-29. Following this, there is a chance for a significant rise in the customer count annually, potentially expanding from 35 lakh to one crore.
Until now, individuals needed to visit passport service centers to apply, but this service is now accessible at the CSC counter located within the post office. To do this, you must sign up on the official website of the post office. The application form must be submitted by you. Following this, you will receive a date on which you must visit the post office for verification along with your required documents.
You’ll need these documents
To obtain a passport, you will require documents such as a birth certificate, high school report card, PAN card, voter ID, Aadhaar card, driving license, ration card, and a notarized affidavit. Once these documents are verified, your fingerprint and retina scan will be conducted as well. If everything is confirmed accurate, your passport will be granted.
