Preparations are underway for the recruitment of about 44,000 Home Guard jawans in Uttar Pradesh, following a similar process to the constable recruitment. The Home Guard Department is studying the rules of the UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board to ensure a fair and transparent process. A written examination will be conducted, and the merit list will be created district-wise. The final results will be announced after the race.

On the instructions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Home Guard jawans will be trained as disaster response personnel. To facilitate this, the Home Guard Headquarters is reviewing the guidelines of the State Disaster Management Authority. A new recruitment rule will be formulated, and a separate recruitment board will be established. The proposal will soon be presented to the Chief Minister for approval.

Home Guard Recruitment Updates: Key Changes and Procedures

The Home Guard Headquarters is closely studying the recruitment process and rules of constable recruitment. According to senior officials, once applications are received for the recruitment of Home Guard jawans, a written examination will be held, similar to the constable recruitment process. Following this, merit lists will be prepared district-wise, and selected candidates will have to undergo a physical run. Previously, there was no written exam for Home Guard recruitment, only a two-kilometre race. However, the distance for the race is now being considered for an increase to 2.5 to 3 kilometres.

Reservation for Women and Other Updates

In line with police recruitment, 20% of the posts will be reserved for female Home Guards, with other relevant rules also applicable. The last recruitment for Home Guard jawans was conducted in 2011. Since then, while many rule changes have been proposed, recruitment processes at the district level have not been completed. Now, steps are being taken to ensure a simultaneous state-level recruitment process from the headquarters. This comes after serious allegations of corruption in previous district-level recruitments, with a dismissal following the Prayagraj recruitment scandal.

Current and Future Recruitment Plans

There are 1,18,348 approved Home Guard posts, with around 75,000 currently in service. With about 4,000 Home Guards retiring each year, the target is to recruit 44,000 Home Guard jawans in two phases. DG Home Guard BK Maurya has confirmed that the recruitment board formation process is underway, with discussions on the rules still ongoing.
