PM Suryadhyog Yojana 2024 was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13th February 2024. This scheme, also called PM Suryaghar Yojana or PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme, was announced on 22nd January 2024 during the Ram Mandir Prana Pratishtha program. The initiative aims to install solar panels for free on the roofs of about 1 crore houses of poor and middle-class families in the country.
Under this scheme, families will receive up to 300 units of free electricity every month from the solar panels installed on their roofs. Additionally, they can earn ₹17,000 to ₹18,000 annually by selling the extra electricity generated.
The primary goal of PM Suryaghar Yojana is to reduce the dependence of poor and middle-class families on grid electricity and fully utilize the sunlight available for 6 to 8 months. The scheme not only aims to reduce electricity bills but also promotes clean energy use. Currently, the country relies heavily on coal for electricity generation, which harms the environment. Through this initiative, the Indian government plans to promote solar energy and reduce environmental impact.
