Uttarakhand’s Updated Housing Policy: Consistent with the central government’s goal of ensuring housing for all, the Dhami administration has initiated significant measures in Uttarakhand. In this regard, the state’s new housing policy received approval during the cabinet meeting that took place on Wednesday.
What decision state government has taken?
In line with this, the government has raised the yearly income cap for beneficiaries from three to five lakh rupees to facilitate housing for the lower income group. For the first time, the yearly income threshold has been established for the lower and lower middle classes along with the general category. For the first time in housing policy, importance has been placed on the Bakhli style housing initiatives in the mountainous area.
In the Bakhli style housing project, beneficiaries will receive a grant of up to Rs 5.25 lakh, whereas in other housing projects, the combined grant from both the centre and state will be Rs 4 lakh. In addition to this, the government has also provided exemptions to housing project developers regarding other charges, such as land use change. In a significant move, the cabinet has sanctioned the establishment of the Uttarakhand Transgender Persons Welfare Board within the state. This board will implement effective measures to safeguard the rights of transgender individuals and address their issues. During the cabinet meeting convened at the Secretariat on Wednesday, led by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, 22 topics were sanctioned following discussion.

Following the meeting, Shailesh Bagoli, Secretary to the Chief Minister, communicated the cabinet decisions to the media. He mentioned that the Housing Department’s proposed new housing policy received approval. In this, four models have been established under the affordable housing project, along with the classification of beneficiaries and projects.
