On the first day of the third Test match against hosts Australia, which started in Brisbane on Saturday, almost the entire day’s play was washed out due to rain. Only 13.2 overs were bowled on the first day, during which Australia scored 28 runs without loss. However, the topic of discussion among commentators and former cricketers was Team India’s XI and captain Rohit Sharma’s decision to bowl first. For this Test, India included Ravindra Jadeja in place of Ravichandran Ashwin and young pacer Akash Deep in place of Harshit Rana in the XI.
The sky was cloudy from the start of the day at the Gabba in Brisbane. However, there was no rain and the match started on time. India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl to take advantage of the pitch. However, his team was disappointed when Australia’s two openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney survived the 80 balls played.
Australia were 28 for no wickets before the second innings was stopped by rain.
Khawaja remained unbeaten on 19 off 47 balls, while McSweeney made 4 off 33 balls. For India, Jasprit Bumrah bowled 6 overs, Mohammad Siraj 4 and Akash Deep 3.2 overs. This is the first match of the series for right-arm pacer Akash Deep. Harshit Rana was dropped from the Adelaide Test to make way for him.
However, there is Good news for spectators who attended Day 1 of the third Test match at Gabba in Brisbane. Cricket Australia announced that they will provide ticket refunds due to the rain-impacted play.
