Mega crackdown made by police regarding pension system. The Odisha Police has registered a case against 65 people for allegedly forging their age proof documents to avail old-age pension under social security schemes in Kendrapara district, officials said on Saturday.

All Block Development Officer (BDO) Minati Jagdeb said an FIR was lodged against him on Friday and a case has been registered against him under sections of the Indian Judicial Code (BNS).

BDO Jagdeb said that the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) is a centrally sponsored scheme that provides financial assistance in the form of social pension to the elderly, widows and disabled persons.

As per the NSAP guidelines and the provisions of MBPY Rules 2008, Gram Panchayats and Panchayat Samitis shall immediately report every case of death of a pensioner to the concerned BDO or Sub-Collector. He said that the payment of pension will stop after the death of the pensioner.

Madhu Babu Pension Yojana (MBPY) is an initiative by the Government of Odisha aimed at providing financial support to individuals over the age of 60, widows of any age, individuals living with AIDS, and those with disabilities, all of whom have an annual income of less than Rs 12,000.

In accordance with the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) guidelines and the MBPY Rules of 2008, it is the responsibility of the Gram Panchayat (GP) or Panchayat Samiti (PS) to promptly inform the Block Development Officer (BDO) or Sub-Collector about the death of any pensioner.

Additionally, an annual verification process will be carried out by the designated authority to confirm the pensioner’s status and ensure they continue to meet all eligibility criteria. Payments will be discontinued upon the pensioner’s death.
