R Ashwin Retirement : India’s veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has decided to retire from international cricket. He announced this in the press conference after the Gaba Test. Ashwin reached the press conference with captain Rohit Sharma and announced it there. Before retirement, Ashwin was seen sitting with Virat Kohli in the dressing room.

During this, Kohli also hugged him. Ashwin was a part of Team India in the Adelaide Day Night Test. This 38-year-old spinner has made many records for India. He is at the seventh position in the list of highest wicket takers in Tests. Ashwin has 537 wickets in 106 Tests. His best bowling is 7 wickets for 59 runs. During this, his average has been 24.00 and strike rate 50.73.

Ashwin is the second highest wicket taker in Tests after Anil Kumble. Kumble had 619 Test wickets. Ashwin’s announcement is shocking because he was the edge of the Indian spin attack on Indian soil. It is shocking to take a sudden decision of retirement after coming to Australia. Ashwin has 37 five-wicket hauls in Tests, which is the most by any Indian bowler. Kumble is next. Kumble took five wickets in an innings 35 times in Tests. Overall, the record for taking the most five-wicket hauls in an innings is held by Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan. He did this 67 times. Ashwin is jointly second with Shane Warne.

Australian spinner Nathan Lyon said, “Nothing but respect (for Ashwin). Just the way Ash has conducted himself on and off the field for a number of years now, and his skill set is incredible. We’ve got different opinions on different things, there’s no right or wrong. But to have those conversations with a bowler like Ashwin is amazing.”

This will be my last day as an Indian cricketer in all formats at the international level,” Ashwin said after the Brisbane Test at a press conference.

“I’ve had a lot of fun. I have made a lot of memories alongside Rohit (Sharma) and several of my team-mates, even though we’ve lost some of them (to retirements) over the last few years. We’re the last bunch of OGs, we can say that. I will be marking this as my date of having played at this level.”
