The Rajasthan government has made a significant decision to support farmers and cattle rearers. They have announced the launch of the Gopal Credit Card Scheme, which will benefit cow and buffalo rearers. In the first phase, the scheme will provide interest-free short-term loans of up to ₹1 lakh to approximately 5 lakh cow-rearing families.
The objective of the scheme is to create employment opportunities in the state and increase the income of farmers. It is expected to not only reduce unemployment but also enhance Rajasthan’s contribution to the country’s milk production.
Rajasthan’s Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister, Diya Kumari, announced the Gopal Credit Card Scheme in the interim budget presented in February. The scheme aims to provide interest-free loans to 5 lakh cowherds, who will receive a short-term loan of up to ₹1 lakh for purchasing equipment. This financial aid will help cattle rearers arrange the necessary tools to start a dairy. The application process for this scheme will begin soon, according to media reports.
Chief Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana
Within two months of Bhajan Lal Sharma becoming the Chief Minister, the government started the Chief Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana, similar to the Prime Minister Kisan Samman Nidhi. Under this scheme, farmers will get ₹2,000 every year, making it ₹8,000 annually when combined with the ₹6,000 from the Prime Minister’s scheme. A budget of ₹1,400 crore has been set for this plan.
Crop Loans for Short-Term Needs
To meet the short-term financial requirements of farmers, the government has set a target to distribute crop loans worth ₹23,000 crore in the current financial year. Additionally, the government aims to add 5 lakh new members. As of July 24, 2024, crop loans have already been distributed to 24 lakh farmers.
Long-Term Loans and Interest Subsidy
In a bid to expand the reach of long-term loans, the government has increased the amount distributed by cooperative banks. The loan amount of ₹50 crore provided last year will be doubled to ₹100 crore. Furthermore, the interest subsidy for farmers repaying their loans on time has been increased from 5% to 7%.
