The indiscriminate use of chemicals in agriculture is reducing soil fertility and negatively affecting people’s health. In such a situation, organic farming is considered a safe and cost-effective alternative. This is why the Central Government implemented the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY) in 2015 to promote organic farming. The scheme aims to improve soil health and increase the organic matter content. Under this initiative, organic farming is promoted by forming farming clusters.

About Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana

Under the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana, farmers receive a grant of ₹50,000 per hectare for three years to practice chemical-free organic farming. The grant is given in two instalments. In the first instalment, ₹31,000 is directly transferred to the farmer’s bank account to help with field preparation, organic manure, bio-fertilizers, organic pesticides, and modern seeds. The second instalment is given over the next two years to support processing, packaging, harvesting, and marketing.

Subsidy for Organic Farming

Under the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana, a selected cluster of farmers is given a grant of up to ₹10 lakh for organic farming on land ranging from 20 to 50 acres. The clusters include 65% small and marginal farmers and 30% women farmers.
