PAN 2.0: The Government of India has recently launched the PAN 2.0 project to make the PAN card more secure and smooth. PAN 2.0 will have a QR code. The initiative aims to enhance the taxpayer experience through several key features such as – data security, QR code integration, unified portal and many more. Fraudsters are now committing fraud in making new PAN cards.

A fake email is being sent, falsely claiming that it is from the Income Tax Department. This mail asks you to download e-PAN card online. PIB (Press Information Bureau) Fact Check says that this email is completely fake. Clicking on the link given in such emails can empty your bank account and your personal information can be stolen.

Do not open any attachment

If you receive any mail or website claiming to be from the Income Tax Department, avoid responding to it. Do not open any attachment that comes with such mail. Do not click on any link that seems suspicious to you. If a suspicious looking email asks you for sensitive information, do not fill in that details. It is always advised to mail the report to the website URL webmanager@incometax.gov.in.
