Virat Kohli Retirement Rumours: Virat Kohli struggled significantly during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which led to discussions about his potential retirement. Kohli managed to score only 190 runs throughout the series, and this poor form sparked speculation that he might step away from cricket. However, recent reports suggest that, despite his struggles, King Kohli is not considering retirement at this stage.

The 36-year-old batter was dismissed on the second day of the fifth Test against Australia by a ball from Scott Boland that went outside the off stump. His ongoing issues seem more mental than technical. He has been repeatedly getting out in the same manner, which has made it easier for bowlers to trouble him. Apart from scoring 136 runs in two innings in Perth and Melbourne, Kohli has managed just 54 runs in his remaining seven innings.

Kohli’s Focus on the 2027 ODI World Cup

Despite his recent poor form, Virat Kohli is not considering retirement yet. It’s reported that Kohli is focused on playing until the 2027 ODI World Cup. Former India coach Ravi Shastri has expressed confidence that Kohli still can continue, while a former selector raised concerns about how Kohli will make a place for himself in the team for the upcoming England tour in June.

Uncertainty Over Domestic Cricket Participation

There’s uncertainty regarding whether Kohli will participate in domestic cricket. It is rumoured that he has no intention of playing in the Ranji Trophy, which is set to start on January 23. Kohli is reportedly spending most of his time in London at his new house, returning to play only for national team matches or in the IPL.

Gambhir’s Advice to Players

After the loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, coach Gautam Gambhir has advised the Indian team players to play domestic cricket to maintain form. Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar reacted to Gambhir’s statements, acknowledging the disappointment from the series loss. Gavaskar mentioned that it will be interesting to see which players follow through and play domestic cricket.
