Mahindra Thar has won the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) 2025 award. The nominations included Maruti Dzire, Maruti Swift, Mahindra Thar Roxx, MG Windsor EV, Citroen Basalt, Tata Curve and Curve EV, Tata Punch EV, and BYD eMAX 7. Mahindra Thar Roxx took the first place on the podium, but Maruti Dzire and Maruti Swift occupied the rest of the places. The award included cars that were launched in 2024.
From the new Tata Curve, Maruti Dzire and Mahindra Thar Roxx launched in 2024 to luxury models like Mercedes-Benz E-Class and Kia Carnival. The best cars among these have been awarded in three categories.

For safety, it has 6 airbags (standard), a rear parking sensor, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, and 3-point seatbelts for all passengers.
The engine of Thar Roxx Base Trim MX1
Thar Roxx MX1 will get a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which generates a maximum power of 162hp and a maximum torque of 330Nm. At the same time, it also has another diesel option. This is a 2.2-liter diesel engine, which generates a maximum power of 152hp and a maximum torque of 330Nm. Both these engines will come with manual transmission.
Thar Roxx Base Trim MX1 Rival
In the Indian market, it will compete directly with the Force Gurkha 5-door and Maruti Suzuki Jimny. However, in terms of sales, both of them are far behind the 3-door model of Thar. At the same price, Thar Roxx will also compete with many compact SUVs in the market like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushak, and Honda Elevate.
