A big update is revealed regarding EPS Pension. A group of pensioners from the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) pension scheme met with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Friday to advocate for an increase in the minimum pension to Rs 7,500 per month, along with a dearness allowance and other requests.
The delegation, led by National President Commander Ashok Raut of the Employees’ Pension Scheme (EPS) 95 National Movement Committee (NAC), had a productive discussion with the Finance Minister. Following the meeting, Raut expressed optimism, stating that the Finance Minister assured them their requests would be taken into consideration.
The Finance Minister is set to present the general budget in Parliament on February 1
Raut emphasized, “This assurance gives us hope. The government should announce a minimum pension of Rs 7,500 along with a dearness allowance in the upcoming budget. Anything less would not ensure a dignified life for our senior citizens.”
Sitharaman will unveil the Union Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 in Parliament on February 1. In a press briefing prior to the meeting, Raut highlighted the struggles faced by over 78 lakh pensioners linked to central and state government public sector undertakings (PSUs), private companies, and factories nationwide.
He also mentioned the ongoing movement for free medical treatment for pensioners and their spouses, noting that they have been advocating for seven to eight years for both the dearness allowance and an increase in the minimum pension from Rs 1,000 to Rs 7,500. Raut pointed out that despite the government’s announcement of a minimum pension of Rs 1,000 in 2014, over 36.60 lakh pensioners are still receiving less than that amount.
