EV Cars Sales: Like many markets around the world, India is also witnessing a decline in the demand for electric cars. This is the reason why electric car sales in the Indian market in September have reached the lowest level in the last 19 months.
During this period, 5,733 vehicles have been sold with a decline of 9 percent annually. In comparison, 6,298 EVs were sold in the same month a year ago. The highest sales (9,661) were in September this year.
TATA also suffered a big setback
TATA Motors, which has the largest electric vehicle portfolio in the country, also suffered an 18 percent annual decline in EV sales last month. Even though the company is at the forefront of this segment with 3,530 electric car sales, this sale is much less than the 4,320 sold in September 2023 last year.
This is the company’s lowest monthly sales since 3,919 vehicles sold in September 2023 last year. Market share has also declined from 68 to 61 percent.
MG retains second position
MG Motors, which is at the second position in sales, has sold 955 vehicles, which is 7 percent more than the 894 sold in September a year ago. This figure is 32 percent less on a monthly basis than the 1,411 vehicles sold in September.
Also, Mahindra & Mahindra, which is at the third position, has succeeded in selling 443 vehicles of XUV 400. Similarly, Citroen (386) and BYD (161) are at the fourth and fifth positions respectively.
BMW leads in the sale of luxury EV cars
Sales of luxury EVs have also declined by 14 percent last month, coming down to 209 from 245 last year. During this period, BMW is at the top by selling 104 luxury electric cars, while Mercedes-Benz, which is at the second position, sold 75 EVs in September and Volvo, which is at the third position, sold 15 EVs last month.
Similarly, Audi has been successful in registering sales of 11 cars and Porsche 3 cars in the Indian market last month.
