Mahindra Indigo Controversy : Mahindra has declared that it will rename its new electric car BE 6e to BE 6 after airline firm InterGlobe Aviation Ltd. raised concerns about the brand rights of the 6E name. Mahindra stated that while the product is labeled as BE 6e rather than just 6E, which InterGlobe has raised concerns about, it prefers not to engage in “a distracting and unnecessary dispute.” Mahindra has submitted a trademark registration application in Class 12 (Vehicles) for the BE 6e as part of its range of electric SUVs.
What the reason controversy?
The BE mark is presently registered by Mahindra in Class 12 and represents the ‘Born Electric’ framework that supports the BE 6e. The car manufacturer also stated in its announcement that it will persistently contest the case in court and will protect its rights to the BE 6e brand name. Mahindra stated that it considers IndiGo’s assertion unfounded and that if not contested, it will create an unhealthy precedent for monopolizing alpha-numeric two-letter marks.
