Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: One of India’s oldest and most popular cars, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, has been recalled due to a gearbox defect.

The carmaker issued a statement saying that 2,550 units of the hatchback have been recalled. And vehicle owners have been advised to avoid driving their car until the problem is fixed by the service center.

This is the third recall by the carmaker this year. Earlier, Maruti recalled about 15,000 Baleno and WagonR units in March and about 87,600 S-Presso and Eco models last month. Maruti Suzuki issued a statement saying that a defect in the steering gearbox used in the Alto K10 may cause problems during driving. Maruti has not disclosed the manufacturing year of the affected vehicles.

However, it has said that the carmaker’s authorized dealership workshops will contact the affected vehicle owners. And if necessary, will check and replace the faulty unit.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Problems

Maruti Suzuki has said that all Alto K10s with a steering gearbox defect will be inspected and repaired by its service centres at no cost to the customers. “The defect reported may, in rare cases, affect the steering ability of the vehicle. As a precaution, customers of the affected vehicles are advised not to drive or use the vehicle until the parts are replaced,” a statement issued by the carmaker said.

Talking about design, then the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 comes with several changes over its previous model. Based on the fifth-generation Heartect platform, the hatchback gets an updated design with a new grille, headlight and taillight units. The Alto K10 is available in six different exterior colour options.

Talking about features, then the Alto K10 cabin has a SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The hatchback also has features like remote key access, electrically adjustable ORVM, steering mounted controls. It also has safety features like ABS with EBD, dual front airbags, speed sensing door lock.

Talking about engine, then Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 new generation model gets a 1.0-liter K-series dual-jet, dual VVT engine. It has manual and auto gear shift (AGS) transmission. Alto K10 is one of the most fuel efficient vehicles in the Indian market. The company claims mileage of up to 24.90 km per liter in this car.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 Price

Talking about price, then Maruti Suzuki launched the Alto K10 on August 18, 2022 at a starting price of Rs 3.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Offered in nine variants, including the CNG version of the hatchback, the Alto K10 is priced up to Rs 5.96 lakh (ex-showroom).
