Maruti Suzuki Ciaz was once in the news in the Indian market due to its excellent value for money and strong performance. Launched in 2014, this sedan received a good response from the customers, but in the last few years its sales were continuously falling. Now according to reports, the production of Ciaz has been completely stopped in March 2024 and its sale will also stop from April 2025.
Falling sales of Ciaz became the biggest reason
Over time, the popularity of Maruti Ciaz gradually decreased. In FY 2022, the company sold 15,869 units of it. But in the very next year i.e. FY 2023, this figure came down to 13,610 units. After this, sales declined further in 2024 and the company was able to sell only 10,337 units. In such a situation, it was clear that the inclination of customers towards this car was not the same as before, due to which Maruti had to take the decision to stop the production of Ciaz.

The increasing demand for SUV cars became a challenge for Ciaz
The dominance of SUV vehicles is increasing in the Indian automobile market instead of sedans. According to reports, the share of the SUV segment in the total cars sold in India is 55 percent. In such a situation, the sales of sedan cars like Maruti Ciaz were bound to be affected.
The choice of customers has changed and now people are preferring SUV vehicles with more ground clearance, strong road presence and better space. Due to this changing trend, the sales of many sedan cars including Maruti Ciaz have been affected.
Ciaz lagged behind in terms of engine and features
Maruti Ciaz used to have many engine options earlier, but with time the company reduced them. Currently, this car was available only with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, which generates 105bhp of power and 138Nm of torque. However, the demand for turbocharged petrol engines and powerful hybrid technology has increased in this segment, which was not seen in Ciaz.
Apart from this, Ciaz also lagged behind its competitors in terms of features. This car had basic features like projector headlamps with LED DRLs, 16-inch alloy wheels, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, multi-function steering wheel and cruise control. However, many new cars were coming in the market with more advanced features, due to which the demand for Ciaz started decreasing.

Price and competition
The ex-showroom price of Maruti Suzuki Ciaz started at Rs 9.41 lakh and its top model was priced at Rs 12.29 lakh. In this segment, it competed with sedan cars like Honda City and Hyundai Verna, which became a better option in terms of features and performance.
