MG Gloster was seen as a premium and powerful option in the Indian SUV market, but now its sales are seeing a huge decline. Only 102 units of MG Gloster were sold in February 2025, which is 39% less than last year. This figure is disappointing for the company, especially when rival SUVs like Toyota Fortuner are continuously gaining a strong hold.

Features of MG Gloster

The MG Gloster cabin has a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which supports smartphone connectivity. The driving experience becomes even better with a bigger screen. This SUV has a panoramic sunroof, which gives the cabin an even more premium feel. Also, wireless phone charging facility is also available, so that you can charge your phone without any hassle.

MG Gloster is no less than anyone in terms of safety. It has features like standard 6-airbags, tire pressure monitoring system and advanced driver assistance system. ADAS technology helps the SUV in safe driving, reducing the risk of accidents.

MG Gloster Price and Market Competition

MG Gloster competes with some powerful SUVs in the Indian market including Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq. Talking about the price, the starting ex-showroom price of MG Gloster starts at Rs 39.57 lakh, while the top variant goes up to Rs 44.74 lakh. However, Toyota Fortuner remains the most popular choice in this segment, due to which Gloster is not in as much demand.

Powerful engine and powertrain of MG Gloster

MG Gloster is offered in two different diesel engine options. The first is a 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine, which generates maximum power of 161bhp and peak torque of 373Nm. The second is a 2.0-liter twin turbo diesel engine, which generates a maximum power of 215bhp and a peak torque of 478Nm.

What are the reasons behind the decline in MG Gloster sales

Toyota Fortuner continues to have a strong hold in the Indian market. The brand value, reliability and resale value of Fortuner is very high, due to which customers are liking it more. MG Motors is a new company in the Indian market and has not yet got a brand value like Toyota. MG Gloster is priced at more than Rs 40 lakh, whereas at this price, customers usually prefer vehicles like Fortuner.
