Tata Electric Cars: Tata Motors is the only company in the country that has the largest portfolio of electric cars. With the arrival of Curve EV, it has become stronger. The special thing is that the company has electric cars ranging from low budget to mid budget.

That is, you will get range and features like premium budget in a mid budget car. The company’s EV list includes Curve EV, Nexon EV, Punch EV, Tiago EV and Tigor EV. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has made changes in the MIDC range testing norms.

Due to which Tata Motors has made changes in the range of its four models (Curve EV, Nexon EV, Punch EV, Tiago EV). In such a situation, their range has reduced.

All ranges are in kilometers.

The range of Tata Curve EV 55 kWh model was earlier 585 km. With the new MIDC standard, the certified range of the Curve EV 55 kWh has been reduced to 502 km.

Similarly, the range of the Curve EV 45 kWh variant has been revised from 502 km to 430 km. For the Nexon EV 40.5 kWh variant, the range has been reduced from 465 km to 390 km. The range of the Nexon EV 30 kWh variant is now 275 km, up from 325 km earlier.

Talking about the Punch EV 35 kWh variant, the range has been revised from 421 km to 365 km. For the 25 kWh variant, the range has been revised from 315 km to 265 km.

The range of the Tiago EV 24 kWh variant has been revised from 315 km to 275 km. The official range of the 19.2 kWh variant is now 221 km, as against 250 km earlier. Overall, the certified range of the Tata EV has dropped by 50 km to 83 km.

The inclusion of the extra urban component in the MIDC range standard is likely to reduce the certified range. This is because EV range is usually less on highways compared to city conditions. It is exactly the opposite in case of ICE cars.

The battery drains faster on highways, as the car is constantly running at high speeds. Also, regenerative braking is almost non-existent on highways. The aerodynamic drag increases significantly at high speeds. This again increases battery consumption.
