Tata Prima H.28: Tata Motors launched India’s first hydrogen-powered commercial vehicle, the Tata Prima H.28, at the India Mobility Expo 2025, which is now ready to hit the roads. Currently, the demand for green energy and electric vehicles is growing rapidly in the country.

Tata Motors and Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) will jointly launch a pilot project of hydrogen-powered trucks this quarter. The arrival of hydrogen trucks will not only help clean up the transport sector but will also reduce India’s dependence on petrol, diesel, and CNG. These trucks aim to reduce carbon emissions and promote the use of green energy.

The future of long-distance transportation

According to reports, this pilot project will run for 18 months. The trial run will start on three routes in the country – Jamshedpur-Kalinga Nagar, Mumbai-Ahmedabad, and Mumbai-Pune. According to Tata Motors, about 15 trucks will be run on all three routes under this pilot project. This project will work towards making hydrogen a suitable option for long distance transportation.

550 km range

The Tata Prima H.28 has a four-cylinder H2ICE engine, which will give a mileage of 550 km. The engine installed in it does not use petrol or diesel but uses hydrogen to generate electricity. The company is working on both hydrogen engines and fuel-cell electric vehicles. This will help in the commercial adoption of hydrogen-based technology.

The future of transportation will change

The arrival of hydrogen trucks will reduce carbon emissions to almost zero, clean energy will be used instead of petrol and diesel, and will help India reduce its dependence on energy imports, but this journey is not so easy, because the production, storage, production, and distribution of hydrogen fuel is still expensive and difficult.

For this, hydrogen fuelling stations and infrastructure need to be strengthened. Not only this, hydrogen-powered engines are still in the early stages of development. In such a situation, a lot of changes are expected in them. The Tata Prima H.28 Hydrogen Truck price could range from ₹ 34.30 Lakh to ₹ 39.50 Lakh.
